The Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zoning Act was signed into law December 22, 1972 and went into effect March 7, 1973. It has been amended several times with name revisions. The purpose of this Act is to prohibit the location of most structures for human occupancy int the areas of active earthquake faults.
